Hurt by the church? Start here.
Thank you for being here. It takes courage just to look for this. Whatever happened to you, here is the road, one step at a time. Go at your own pace.
- Step 1
Hear the one thing that matters most
Before any definitions: it wasn’t God who hurt you. Twenty-four minutes, one plea.
- Step 2
Name what happened, honestly
Was it church hurt (imperfect people, hard truths) or spiritual abuse (authority used to control, exploit or silence)? The answer changes the road home.
- Step 3
If it was abuse, get safe first
You are not called to submit to abuse. Learn the signs, get distance, and talk to someone outside the system.
- Step 4
If it was hurt, don’t let it cost you your church
Real pain from real people is part of loving a family of sinners. Grace, honest conversation and forgiveness are the way through.
- Step 5
Forgive, without going back under anything
Forgiveness is commanded. It means releasing them to God, not pretending, forgetting, or returning to someone unsafe.
- Step 6
Come home to God
Trust grows back slowly, and that is all right. He never left the road.
- Step 7
In time, find a healthy church
Not tomorrow, and not under pressure. But the answer to a bad church is never no church.
